This quick and easy Creamy Citrus Vinaigrette is bright, fresh, and packed with bold flavor. It is made with freshly squeezed lime and orange juice, olive oil, plain Greek yogurt, garlic, warm spices, and just a touch of honey. This combination creates the perfect balance of tangy, creamy, savory, and slightly sweet. Unlike heavy, mayonnaise-based dressings, this vinaigrette gets its rich, creamy texture from Greek yogurt while still feeling light and refreshing.

Whether you’re tossing it with leafy greens, grain salads (like my Summer Corn Salad), pasta salads, roasted vegetables, or using it as a marinade, this versatile dressing instantly makes any meal so much better. The citrus, cumin, and smoked paprika gives it a subtle Southwestern-inspired flavor that pairs especially well with corn, black beans, chickpeas, grilled chicken, shrimp, avocado, and fresh summer produce.

Keep a batch in your refrigerator all week long for easy lunches, meal prep, and quick dinners.

Why you’ll love this recipe!

  • Ready in just 5 minutes
  • Bright, fresh citrus flavor
  • Creamy without using mayonnaise
  • Made with simple pantry ingredients
  • Perfect for salads, grain bowls, and vegetables
  • Great as a marinade for chicken, pork, or shrimp
  • Naturally gluten-free
  • Stores well for meal prep
  • Easy to customize to your taste
  • Much fresher than store-bought dressing

What ingredients do I need?

  • Fresh Lime Juice: Adds bright acidity and freshness.
  • Fresh Orange Juice: Brings natural sweetness and balances the lime.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Creates a rich, silky base.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt: Makes the dressing creamy while adding protein and tang.
  • Garlic: Adds savory depth and bold flavor.
  • Ground Cumin: Contributes warm, earthy notes.
  • Smoked Paprika: Gives subtle smokiness and color.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: Enhances brightness and balances the richness.
  • Honey: Softens the acidity with just the right amount of sweetness.
  • Kosher Salt: Brings all of the flavors together.
  • Black Pepper: Adds gentle warmth.

Recipe Variations

  • Cilantro Citrus: Blend in fresh cilantro for a cilantro citrus dressing.
  • Extra Creamy Avocado: Add half of an avocado for an extra creamy version.
  • Smokier: Increase the smoked paprika for a smokier flavor.
  • Herb Forward: Add fresh herbs like basil or parsley.

Pro Tips

  • Use freshly squeezed citrus juice. Fresh lime and orange juice provide a brighter, sweeter flavor than bottled juice.
  • Blend the ingredients until completely smooth. This fully incorporates the yogurt, oil, and garlic for a silky, emulsified dressing.
  • Use an immersion blender if possible. An immersion blender (I love my cordless one that you can find here) creates a stronger emulsion than whisking by hand, allowing the olive oil, Greek yogurt, and citrus juices to fully combine into a smooth, creamy dressing. It also helps break down the garlic completely, so every bite is silky with no harsh garlic chunks. If you don’t have an immersion blender, a regular blender would work well too (I love this blender for everything)
  • Blend longer than you think you should. An extra 20–30 seconds of blending helps create an even creamier, restaurant-quality texture that clings beautifully to salads, grain bowls, and roasted vegetables instead of pooling at the bottom of the bowl.
  • Taste it before serving. Citrus varies in sweetness and acidity, so adjust with a little more honey, salt, or lime juice if needed.
  • Chill the dressing before using. Letting the dressing rest in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes allows the flavors to meld together.
  • Double the batch. This dressing keeps well in the refrigerator and is wonderful to have on hand for salads, wraps, grain bowls, and roasted vegetables.

Can I Substitute?

Yes! Like always though, any substitutions made to the recipe can result in a change in texture and/or flavor.

  • Orange Juice: Swap lemon juice for the orange juice for a brighter citrus flavor.
  • Greek Yogurt: Use regular plain yogurt in place of Greek yogurt for a slightly thinner dressing.
  • Honey: Maple syrup or agave can replace the honey.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar: White wine vinegar or red wine vinegar can substitute for apple cider vinegar.
  • Olive Oil: Avocado oil works well instead.

Dietary Substitutions

  • Gluten-Free: This recipe is naturally gluten-free.
  • Vegetarian: This recipe is vegetarian.
  • Dairy-Free: Use your favorite plain dairy-free Greek-style yogurt.
  • Vegan: Use your favorite plain dairy-free yogurt and then substitute maple syrup or agave for the honey.

Leftovers and Storage

  • Refrigerator: Transfer the dressing to a mason jar or airtight container and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
    • Because homemade dressings don’t contain preservatives, some natural separation may occur. Simply shake the jar or whisk the dressing before serving.
    • If the dressing thickens in the refrigerator, stir in a teaspoon or two of water, olive oil, or fresh citrus juice until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • This dressing is ideal for weekly meal prep and tastes delicious drizzled over salads, grain bowls, grilled vegetables, tacos, wraps, and roasted chicken throughout the week

But, I Still Have A Few Questions…

How long does this dressing last?

Stored in an airtight jar or container in the refrigerator, this dressing will stay fresh for up to 5 days. Because it contains fresh citrus juice and Greek yogurt, it’s best enjoyed within that timeframe for the best flavor and texture.

Can I make this ahead of time?

Absolutely! In fact, the flavor improves after a few hours in the refrigerator as the spices and citrus have time to meld together.

Why is my dressing thicker after refrigeration?

The Greek yogurt will naturally thicken as it chills. Simply whisk or shake the dressing well before serving. If it’s thicker than you’d like, add a splash of water, olive oil, or fresh citrus juice to loosen it up some.

Can I use bottled lime or orange juice?

I highly recommend using freshly squeezed juice. It provides a brighter, fresher flavor without the preservatives or muted taste that bottled juices can sometimes have.

What can I serve this dressing with?

This dressing is incredibly versatile. It’s delicious on green salads, grain bowls, pasta salads, roasted vegetables, grilled chicken, shrimp, fish tacos, wraps, burrito bowls, or as a dip for fresh vegetables. I especially love this on my Summer Corn Salad.

Can I use it as a marinade?

Yes you can! The citrus, yogurt, and olive oil make it an excellent marinade for chicken, shrimp, pork, or even tofu. Marinate proteins for 30 minutes to 4 hours before cooking.

Can I make this without a blender?

Yes. If you mince or grate the garlic very finely, you can whisk all of the ingredients together in a bowl until smooth. A blender simply creates the creamiest texture.

Can I use an immersion blender instead of a regular blender?

Absolutely! In fact, an immersion blender is my favorite tool for making this dressing. Because it blends in a tall, narrow container, it quickly emulsifies the olive oil with the citrus juice and Greek yogurt, creating an ultra-smooth, creamy texture in less than a minute. It also finely incorporates the garlic and spices, so the dressing tastes well-balanced in every bite.

Can I adjust the sweetness?

Yes! If your citrus is especially tart, add a little more honey. If your oranges are very sweet, you may find you need less.

Is this dressing spicy?

No, not at all. The cumin and smoked paprika provide warmth and depth of flavor but very little heat. If you’d like a spicy version, blend in a jalapeño or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Can I freeze it?

Freezing isn’t recommended. The yogurt can separate after thawing, affecting the smooth texture of the dressing.
